Exports And SEZ Supplies:

GST refunds are generally available to businesses that export products or services or supply to Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

Inverted Duty Structure:

Refund On Accumulated Input Tax Credit:

Process For Claiming GST Refund Under GST

Here is a step-by-step GST refund process that every applicant must follow -

  • Go to the GSTN portal and complete the refund application form to claim your refund in GST.
  • After submitting your refund GST form online, you will receive an email or SMS with an acknowledgment number.
  • The "carry-forward input tax credit" will be automatically reduced, and adjustments will be made to your cash and return ledger.
  • Authorities will review your refund application and submitted documents within 30 days of filing.
  • The concept of "unjust enrichment" will be carefully examined by authorities. If the application doesn't qualify, the refund may go to the Consumer Welfare Fund.
  • Before the refund is approved, a pre-audit procedure will be carried out if the claimed refund exceeds a predetermined amount.
  • After approval, NEFT, RTGS, or ECS will be used to electronically credit the return amount to your account. You can submit refund applications at the end of each quarter.
  • If the amount is less than Rs. 1000, no refund will be issued.


How To Apply In Form RFD-01 For Various Types Of GST Refunds?

  • Enter your login credentials to access the official GST portal.
  • After logging in, choose 'Refund' under the 'Services' menu. To begin the process, select 'Application for Refund'.
  • Choose the applicable refund type based on your eligibility (e.g., exports, inverted duty structure, deemed exports, etc.).
  • Fill out the RFD-01 form completely, making sure to include the GSTIN, the financial year, the tax period, and the kind of GST refund.
  • Provide details of invoices, documents, or other supporting evidence required for the selected refund type.
  • Enter the bank account information that you would like to be credited with the refund.
  • Verify the data provided in the form and submit the application.
  • You will receive an acknowledgment with a distinct ARN (Application Reference Number) upon submission success.
  • To find out the status of your refund application on the GST portal, use the ARN.
  • Your application will be examined by the authorities. If everything is in order, the refund will be approved.
  • The refund amount will be electronically credited to your bank account upon approval.
